XP to Windows 7 Upgrade Not So Simple

Many of us out there chose not to get Windows Vista installed on our new computers.   Instead we either opted for XP or downgraded from vista to XP. A lot of people now want to upgrade from XP to Windows 7 upgrade XP to Windows 7.   There is just one big problem.   Microsoft does not support upgrading XP to Windows 7.

The big M is getting a little gruff out there for not providing an upgrade option for XP users.   The reason they say is that XP is a legacy operating system that came out a decade ago and that they cannot guarantee the outcome of a data transfer. I am still perplexed by this. There is one data transfer company out there that has come up with a solution to upgrade your operating system. For the life of me I don’t know why a third party vendor could make such a tool yet Microsoft was not able to or did not want to. Follow the above link in this article to learn more about this little software program that can do the upgrade for you.

So what options do you have?

You can always just insert the Windows 7 disk and wipe out the XP operating system. The big down side here is having to re-install all your programs and you would need to backup your personal files and settings first.   A good site to check out on backing up files and doing file transfers is this XP to Windows 7 data transfer site.

Another way that this can be done is to first upgrade to Vista and then to Windows 7. This is not that good of an option because you would be wasting a good hundred bucks on purchasing Vista as well. This is a far better option because the cost is far lower then purchasing an operating system that you never plan on using.  That is why we recommend using the only software known to XP to Windows 7 upgrade.

I know I’m not the only one when I say Sucks to Your Asmare. On the flip side of things the new operating system is getting some very good reviews. Be sure and download the Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser program first. This is one of those tools that you really should use because it will let you know ahead of time if one of your hardware or software programs will not work on the new OS. With any operating system upgrade you may need to install a few new or updated drivers so don’t expect all your devices to work right off the bat.

  • Five great plugin I have begun to use is WordPress File Monitor. This plugin scans your WordPress installation &reports if any files have been added, deleted,or changed. The plugin is customizable to run on a schedule that you set. You can also exclude directories from the plugin’s reporting so that you are not alerted every time you upload a picture to insert in to a post. I,however, recommend that you do not exclude directories as that directory may be the next location of the next exploit.
